Paris (AP) – The Paris police broke up an illegal open-air party with hundreds of participants on Friday evening. Hygiene and distance rules were not observed, according to the Paris police prefecture. The people had celebrated on the esplanade in front of the Invalides.

Media reported that there had previously been an appeal on social networks. Videos could be seen how numerous young people danced without masks or distance. The police intervened around 11 p.m. and reportedly used tear gas.

In France, there is an evening curfew from 11 p.m. due to the corona pandemic. Then people are only allowed to stay outside with a valid reason. In addition, no more than ten people may gather in public space.

In Paris there is a general mask requirement, also in the fresh air. On Wednesday, numerous easing of the corona measures came into force in the country – including the postponement of the curfew by two hours. The interiors of the restaurants were also allowed to reopen under certain conditions.

Many restaurants in Paris have expanded their terraces, and in some areas the city looks like one large terrace. The corona situation has recently eased significantly in the capital as well as in all of France.
