Pope Francis is recovering from his surgery and is slowly going back to work. On Sunday he will pray the traditional Angelus prayer from the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic.

Rome – Pope Francis is on the mend after his bowel surgery. He is gradually going back to work, said Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni on Saturday. His blood tests are satisfactory.

On Sunday, the 84-year-old head of the Catholic Church will pray the traditional Angelus prayer from the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic. According to Vatican News, there is a hospital room on the top floor of the ten-story building in northern Rome, which will be kept free for the Pope. For Francis it is the first stay there since the beginning of his pontificate in 2013, his predecessor John Paul II (1979-2005) had a total of ten operations in the clinic.

Last Sunday (July 4th) doctors had removed part of Francis' colon in a planned operation. The operation was necessary because the Argentine had a painful bowel disease. dpa
