1:08 p.m .: Novavax will be available from February 28, Herrmann continues to report. This vaccine will initially go to healthcare workers. Regarding facility-related vaccination requirements, he says: You need a longer implementation period. A direct implementation would “lead to chaos.” It was thought to be tiered: First the partial vaccination requirement, then the general one in a timely manner. The federal government would remain guilty of this so far. With the implementation of the facility-related vaccination requirement, there is a risk “that we are endangering the staff situation” and ultimately also the patients, Herrmann continues. The CSU politician believes that the federal government’s requirement is “unsuitable for practical use”. According to the Federal Minister of Health, Lauterbach was racing at 180 km/h into thick banks of fog. “We are for general vaccination,” Herrmann clarifies. The federal government promised partial and general vaccination, but only delivered one – and in a “catastrophic technical form”.

The R value has fallen compared to the previous week.

Söder relaxes Bavaria’s corona rules – despite high incidences

Update from February 8, 8:23 a.m .: The corona rules are relaxed in Bavaria – despite the high number of infections. Markus Söder (CSU) had already announced this on Monday (see first report). The incidence in Bavaria was 1819.1 on Tuesday (previous day: 1786.0).

Germany’s hotspot remains the district of Fürstenfeldbruck (4031.3). The district of Eichstätt (3123.9) and the city of Ingolstadt (2491.4) follow in second and third place. In Munich the value is 2206.2. The day before, the RKI had reported a value of 2392.6 for the state capital.

The health authorities reported 28,285 new corona infections and 29 deaths in Bavaria to the RKI within 24 hours. This emerges from figures that reflect the status of the RKI data on its website at 7.20 a.m. However, the figures are only of limited significance. Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data. Test capacities and health authorities are at the limit in many places, contacts are only traced to a limited extent.

In addition, the planned prioritization of PCR tests is likely to increase the number of people who no longer have their infection confirmed in this way – and who are therefore not included in the official statistics.

After vaccination hammer and corona loosening in Bavaria: Söder justifies himself

Söder announces Corona hammer in Bavaria: No vaccination for the time being

Meanwhile, Söder’s announcement that he did not want to implement the facility-related vaccination requirement from March 15th caused a stir. One hears the concern that this is exactly what will lead to an overload of the health system. Namely when all the staff who have not been vaccinated to date are absent. “I am in favor of compulsory vaccination,” Söder clarified, but this singular duty is not a solution to the Omicron crisis. Instead, there will be “the most generous transitional regulations”, which “de facto initially amounts to a suspension of enforcement,” he said on Monday.

Bavaria loosens corona rules – Söder justifies action

With the announced easing, Bavaria is going beyond the previous agreements between the federal and state governments. When asked on Monday, Söder justified this with the relatively low utilization of the clinics – despite record incidences * – and here in particular the intensive care units with Covid patients. The next round of federal-state consultations is planned for next week.

The CSU boss also said on Twitter: “We need pragmatism instead of ideology when it comes to the corona rules. There is currently no risk of the healthcare system being overloaded. That’s why gradual openings make sense.”
