Restaurant refuses entry to Russians – "slap in the face"

A restaurant in Baden-Württemberg does not want to serve visitors with Russian passports as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine and has received a violent shitstorm.

Bietigheim – The war in Ukraine has shaken people across Germany. In Stuttgart, too, the citizens are shocked by Russia’s attack on Ukraine (BW24* reported). Many people in Baden-Württemberg * have therefore taken to the streets in the past few days to set an example or to express their solidarity.

The “Traube” restaurant in Bietigheim (Rastatt district) also wanted to show its solidarity with the Ukraine and summarily banned Russian citizens from the restaurant. “Visitors with a Russian passport are not welcome in our house,” the restaurant wrote on its website. They are aware that the “normal Russian citizen” is not to blame for the criminal actions of the Russian government, the operators of the bar continue to write, but they still want to send a signal.

Restaurant collects Shitstorm: “Exclude people because of their origin – seriously?”

However, the restaurant in Bietigheim certainly did not expect the consequences of the political sign. In a short time, a huge shit storm erupted on the internet. “Mega outrageous”, “Really pathetic” or “The dumbest thing I’ve ever seen” write the users on the Internet. “Exclusion never leads to peace,” says one user. “That’s not the right way, more of a slap in the face for people who can’t help it that their president is a criminal,” agrees another.

But there was not only a wave of indignation on social media, the displeasure of the citizens is also vented in the Google reviews of the restaurant. Every minute on Monday morning (February 28th) it rained miserable ratings with only one out of five possible stars. “Disgusting restaurant,” wrote one user. “Exclude people because of where they come from – Seriously?” commented another user on her one-star rating. Another said that you shouldn’t visit the restaurant again in the future because of the discrimination.

After a violent shitstorm: the restaurant’s homepage was deleted

The homepage of the “Traube” restaurant was temporarily unavailable on Monday morning. The reviews on Google have since been deleted. As late as Sunday afternoon, the host issued an apology on Facebook and the restaurant’s website: “It was a mistake to base criticism of Putin on nationality. I never wanted to insult anyone because of their nationality.” He also stated that his family and employees would now be threatened. A police patrol car also parked in front of the restaurant.

In the past few days there have been some solidarity actions in Baden-Württemberg, which, however, do not go far enough for the citizens*. Among other things, the state of Baden-Württemberg had the New Palace in Stuttgart shine in the Ukrainian colors of blue and yellow, and the city of Ludwigsburg* hoisted the Ukrainian flag at the town hall. *BW24 is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
