Car group Stellantis announced a deal on Tuesday to buy Share Now , a car-sharing joint venture of German giants BMW and Mercedes.

"We want to establish ourselves in large cities and Share Now is a key step to accelerate our model," said Brigitte Courtehoux, general director of Free2Move, the subsidiary of Stellantis (Fiat, Chrysler, Peugeot, Citroën) that will absorb its competitor.

Share Now will be acquired by Free2move, the car-sharing subsidiary of Stellantis, the group said in a statement.

The agreement will allow it to provide service in "14 large European cities" and increase its fleet fivefold, according to the statement, relying on the recent acquisition of Opel Rent in Germany and Austria.

Free2move would also "add more than 3.4 million customers to its two million users," the group said.
