The Geodynamic Institute warns residents of the Greek island not to return to their damaged homes. The series of earthquakes will continue.

Heraklion – Another quake shook the Mediterranean island of Crete. It had a magnitude of 5.3 and was an aftershock of Monday's tremor, according to the head of the Athens Geodynamic Institute, Giorgos Chouliaras.

The quake on Monday had claimed a human life with a magnitude of 5.8 and caused severe damage. "The residents should not return to damaged houses," said Chouliaras on state television (ERT).

The series of earthquakes will continue. Before that, more than 60 smaller quakes had occurred.

Thousands of people had to spend Tuesday night in tents or in their cars because numerous houses were badly damaged. Most of the damage was recorded in the region of the village of Arkalochori south of the port city of Heraklion. Hotel facilities were not damaged, as local media reported. dpa
