On the second Saturday of the month, local and regional artisans and jewelers organize booths and tables to display and sell their work in an informal setting and right on the street. It is a family event.
What or where is Sunnyslope? Sunnyslope is an urban town in North Phoenix.
Sunnyslope Art Walk
When: October (date for 2016 not yet announced) from 5 pm to 10 pm
Where: Central Avenue and Dunlap. If you are mapping it, use “Sunnyslope Plaza Shopping Center, Phoenix” or “Grinders Coffee Co., Phoenix”. However, there is no need to worry about parking there. Go a few blocks south to Townley Avenue or Alice Avenue to find a parking spot in Central.
How much: admission is free. Come and see how you want. Parking in the area is also free.
What you need to know:
- This art walk is a bit different from others in the city, as the vendors are located in different areas (parking lots) a few blocks from each other. From the largest lot at Dunlap and Central, walk south on Central and see both sides of the street.
- Make sure to use the crosswalks and pay attention to the lights, as it is a busy street. When I was there, the Police Department helped with traffic and pedestrian flow.
- You’ll find snack stands and an area for food trucks. Local cafes and restaurants will also be open. In 2015 a Wine and Beer Garden was added.
- On the night I attended there were musicians in all five areas of the booth.
- Sunnyslope is an urban area of Phoenix, and the art walk is meant to have locals invite everyone to the neighborhood. No high fashion, no huge bronze statues for sale, no trolleys. Just people and their crafts for sale, and a good opportunity for others to go for a walk, listen to music, and maybe buy something. Relax. It’s not complicated
