The company TelevisaUnivision signed an agreement with Hemisphere Media Group to acquire Pantaya, a streaming platform for movies and series in Spanish, which includes radio assets in Puerto Rico.

The company anticipates that the transaction, of which the amount was not disclosed, will be completed in the second half of this year, once the conditions and regulatory approvals in the United States are proven.

According to a statement from the company, which arose from the merger between Televisa and Univisión, Pantaya will accelerate the transformation of the Vix+ streaming platform, the premium version of TelevisaUnivision.

Pantaya offers a vast selection of current and classic titles, from the United States and Latin America, such as ‘Señorita 89’ and ‘A la mala’.

“We are excited to welcome the Pantaya team and their current subscribers, and to have access to their thousands of hours of content that perfectly complement Pantaya’s long-form content generator, industry-leading video library and extensive property portfolio. intellectual and sports rights of TelevisaUnivision”, said Pierluigi Gazzolo, president and director of transformation of the company.

In April, the free platform ViX came into operation, which has the content of the streaming platforms that Televisa and Univisión already have in the United States, Mexico and Latin America, such as Blim Tv or Prende TV.

In the second half of 2022, ViX+ will enter the market, access to which will require the payment of a subscription, but unlike the free version it will have exclusive content created by producers with Disney experience, in addition to Ventanarosa, owned by actress Salma Hayek .
