The most impressive marine plants

0

A large number of species inhabit the marine ecosystem. If you are a nature lover and you practice diving, you will surely have seen numerous fish, squid and even stars and seahorses. However, these animals could not exist without marine vegetation, as they are the largest inhabitants of the planet and our main source of oxygen. In fact, phytoplankton produce more than 50% of the oxygen that is released into the atmosphere each year.

Seaweed is the first link in the marine food chain. They are unicellular or multicellular organisms that, unlike plants, do not have roots, stems, leaves, and do not produce flowers or seeds. In addition, algae can produce organic matter from CO2, water and mineral salts. There are around 30,000 species of seaweed, as it is a very heterogeneous group with a great variety of sizes.

In addition to algae we can also find sea grasses. They are the only marine plants that produce flowers and, due to their ability to absorb carbon, are of vital importance in the fight against climate change. As if that were not enough, seagrass serves as food and shelter for numerous species, such as fish or turtles.

Here we show you some of the most impressive marine plants. Nature will never cease to amaze us!
