The relationship between Verstappen and Horner is worth more than a contract

You could say that Max Verstappen was a child prodigy. From his first steps with a kart with the support of his father Jos Verstappen, to his first and early debut at the wheel of a Formula 1 when he was not even of legal age, the Dutch driver has managed to leave all those who have been crossed his path.

Skipping all the previous steps, Max Verstappen arrived in Formula 1 in the 2016 season as a driver for Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri). His face gave him away, as well as some actions on the track that crossed certain limits. Despite that youth and inexperience, the Dutchman quickly agreed with all the experts and began to earn the nickname “the star of the future”.

That future has already arrived, in fact, winning the 2021 drivers’ championship achieved that success that he had been pursuing for so many years. F1 world champion at the age of 24 and after dethroning Mercedes and a Lewis Hamilton who was on his way to a record that would have placed him as the most successful driver in the history of the highest category alone with eight world titles.

At the moment and having reached the top, hardly anyone doubts that Max Verstappen ‘s future lies in Milton Keynes , home of Red Bull Racing. However, the Dutch driver’s current contract runs out at the end of 2023.

Taking this fact into account, the director of the energy drinks team, Christian Horner , was quite relaxed about it and assured that the relationship between the pilot and the team is not based on a simple contract, but on the human relationships that exist in the middle.

“Max came to the team almost as a child, during all this time he has grown and developed together with the team. I think that the relationship and trust that we share between us is worth much more than any piece of paper (contract). I look forward to competing with Max for many more years and I think the best years are yet to come .”
