There are those who embark on The Sims 4 to create the house of their dreams and reform it to infinity. Others prefer to project into the game a crazy life with which to do all kinds of experiments and there are those who enjoy being the neighborhood trolls and, in the process, have a good laugh. And in all these aspects, the Interior Design Content Pack gives a brutal game.
EA unleashed Pandora’s box coinciding with the arrival of June, and despite not being the traditional great summer expansion itself, The Sims 4 Interior Design is one of those contents capable of obsessing those most passionate about home renovations and improvised. Especially those who come from the first two installments of The Sims. Strengthening, in the process, the true essence of the experience: self-realization.
Because, despite its name, The Sims 4 Interior Design is not about moving furniture, changing the floor and lighting following the advice in a Feng Shui manual, but about experimenting with decoration, translating into a room an idea, a concept or a defined or abstract theme. And what is better: we are paid very well for each order.
As interior designers, we will have a large budget in advance to shape practically everything that comes to mind with ideas, and instructions that clients give us as a reference. And not only that, as we gain reputation, the numbers of simoleons that we will handle will skyrocket, but that does not condition the essential: we will continue to have carte blanche to do whatever comes to mind.
That means that, as is often the case with reforms in real life, we can basically do what we want, even go over budget or shape the opposite of what is asked of us . In fact, our own clients are not always very clear about what they want and how they want it, since they will give us some general ideas and, from there, we can study how to transfer them to the order. Or not.
As is to be expected in the world of The Sims 4, their reactions to fulfilling an order successfully are only surpassed by the most absolute nonsense. In this second case, logically, you lose your reputation as an interior designer and, consequently, quite sweet commissions, but free will is still an essential component in the saga , and the possibilities of achieving great milestones or screw it up are too tempting.
My first steps as an interior designer: let the Scott twins tremble!
I didn’t have to do a one-week course to start my career as an interior designer: with the Content Pack installed, I just had to give a phone call (it can also be done from the PC) and decide that I wanted to be one. As is, a la Matrix. From there, all you have to do is choose the first assignment based on budget and pay, and build ourselves up to the only challenge of the experience: trying to understand what customers want.
If you’ve never played the Sims 4 , don’t worry, you won’t be overwhelmed. For the occasion I created a new sim and, to my surprise, when choosing between the categories of tastes and tyrannies , the decoration section has been included . And there is a real outrage to choose from: from fairytale decor to gothic farmhouse. If those are the possible tastes of my character, those of our clients are not far behind.
That said, the tutorial is still that perfect tool to familiarize you with the simulation mechanics, adjust to the default cameras (or change them from options) and the most fun of all: learn to interact with other sims.
As an additional note and advice, if you go through the tutorial, you won’t be able to start your interior design career first with your character. You can finish the tutorial whenever you want, of course, although while you familiarize yourself with the game and its possibilities you can always stop and through your housemate, get fully into the world of wild reforms and decoration for all tastes.
From there, once our profession has been chosen, it is time to choose the order and present ourselves at the clients’ home within the range of agreed hours. Naturally, it is a profession , with which we can carry out our daily routines, leisure activities and test the elasticity of our social relationships with acquaintances, neighbors, relatives and possible romantic interests.
At this point, and in case you want to do things right, there are basically two universal tips:
- Establish a good relationship with your clients , which means from taking a shower to the appointment to listening to what they tell you directly and not so directly.
- Be creative and daring with the project . It is not about being exaggerated when making changes, but about trying to be as original as possible. That is, break with the traditional with style.
The way in which The Sims 4 approaches the interior designer experience, on the other hand, is irretrievably reminiscent of the thousand reality shows that can be found on thematic channels. Beyond the previous interviews, we will have to take a photo of the before, access the ‘ Build and make decorations ‘ mode and present the redecorated space to the client in order to see their reaction. More or less, like an episode of The House of My Dreams , but without a guaranteed happy ending.
Because, as we discussed, while we will receive instructions and suggestions, The Sims 4, Interior Design is not always concrete enough to get it right or give us something to work with. And, of course, how inspired we are ourselves also influences.
The best thing in these cases is to think big : squeeze each of the Simoleons out of the budget and, if we are sure of an aspect, such as a theme or a color, give free rein to our ideas. In fact, going over budget will not be a problem if the client is satisfied with our work. That said, there are very peculiar tastes.
Regarding the orders that we will receive, it is not only about adding or changing the furniture, we will be asked to renovate a room, add one to the totally new house, and even renovate or add an entire floor. In this regard, and if we do it well, our clients will contact us again so that we can continue adapting their home to our vision.
That said, this Content Pack has a clear objective: to invite us to make all those reforms that in other circumstances we would not do in our home, and for this The Sims 4, Interiorism or puts us ahead of its other great incentive as DLC: its generous lots of new decor items and objects, including the ever-appreciating modular sofas, TV cabinets and coffee tables and up to two complete kitchen sets that can be mixed and used together

It is a new profession that offers us the possibility of delving much more and better in one of the most characteristic aspects of the saga. And earn hundreds of simoleons with it.
- On the other hand, beyond the interior design assignments, the pack contains more than 130 Build mode items , as well as 59 Create a Sim items . In fact, we can even start our game by creating a sim already dressed with the new styles created for the occasion. And that, in a way, adds additional value to the big fans of the saga.
In this way, if what you are most passionate about about The Sims 4 is not its decorative possibilities, construction or any aspect related to interior design, perhaps it is one of those packs in which its own name reveals everything you can expect from it. . EA’s life simulator has an awful lot of ways to approach it.
But if you are one of those who completely reform their houses every so often, who like to experiment like crazy and who feel the urgent need to buy a new sofa, a TV or a whole kitchen every time they have plenty of simoleons, The Sims 4, Interior Design will allow you to unleash your creativity and kill the itch for compulsive purchases inherent in the game itself. And that is a total success.
The Sims 4, Interior Design is not the next great step in EA’s fireproof installment, nor does it need it: it manages to offer the player the possibility of doing courageous interior design experiments and projects through one of the most and best trades. they accommodate the game that has haunted millions of players for decades. And that makes it a particularly sweet batch with great potential.
