Brunsbüttel – Three young people were burned to death in a car accident in Schleswig-Holstein. They were trapped in the car when they went up in flames. The emergency services were unable to free them due to the heat, as the fire brigade announced.
Only after the fire had been extinguished could the helpers rescue the dead people from the car.
Previously, the 19-year-old driver drove over a roundabout early on Saturday morning, the police said, probably too fast. He then went off the road in his car and hit a tree. Immediately afterwards, the car went up in flames, it was said. According to the information, the driver threw his 18-year-old passenger out of the car. They were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One of them is in mortal danger, it said.
The B 5 near Brunsbüttel in Schleswig-Holstein was temporarily completely closed for rescue and recovery work, as the police announced. The investigations into the 19-year-old’s fitness to drive are ongoing. The identity of those killed was initially not clarified on Saturday. dpa
