Ukrainian forces "enter" the strategic city of Lyman

Ukrainian soldiers on Saturday "entered" the city of Liman, a major railway hub in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, which Russia annexed on Friday, according to Ukraine's Defense Ministry.

"Ukrainian air assault forces enter Liman, Donetsk region," the ministry said on Twitter.

In a one-minute video accompanying the message, two Ukrainian soldiers are seen waving and then placing the sky-blue and yellow national flag next to the inscription "Liman."

"We unfurled our national flag and placed it on our territory. Liman will always be part of Ukraine," one of the two soldiers said with a smile.

Earlier, the army had reported that it had "surrounded" several thousand Russian soldiers in the city.

Limán is located in the Donetsk region, annexed on Friday by Moscow, although not fully controlled by Russian troops.

The loss of Limán would mean a new setback for the Russian army after having suffered several military failures since the beginning of September and the launch of the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the south and east of the country.
