Dietrich Mateschitz, owner and founder of the Austrian giant Red Bull, died in the early hours of Sunday before the MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix.

The 78-year-old Austrian, owner of 50% of Red Bull in F1, had been away from the circuits for a long time, although he always had a very active role in the world of racing . It can be said without being untrue that Mateschitz was the father of Red Bull in Formula 1, the founder and great supervisor in the golden age of the team together with Sebastian Vettel and that they are now repeating it with Max Verstappen .

Although it was in Formula 1 where he turned the most, with the homonymous team, he was also an important support in the world of motorcycling . Their support in the promotional categories is undeniable, with the Red Bull Rookies Cup , as well as the sponsorship of the KTM factory, as well as its Tech3 satellite structure.

On many occasions he has been considered the ‘Abramovich’ of motorsport, due to his immense wealth of money.

That is why the MotoGP paddock wanted to pay tribute to him before starting the MotoGP race in Sepang. Instead of a minute of silence, the event organizers opted for a minute of applause.

The riders from the KTM-Red Bull structure (such as Brad Binder, Miguel Oliveira, Augusto Fernández or Remy Gardner, among many others) positioned themselves prominently in a specially designated space, although the entire premier class grid was present.
