After the stormy weather, a new extreme is now threatening – and even after that the weather in Germany has a few surprises in store.
Kassel – In February, a real weather thriller broke over Germany. Cold was followed by pure heat, a weather expert even reckoned with “record heat”.* This roller coaster was finally replaced by hurricanes and storms. They roared, including storms, across the Federal Republic and claimed several lives. Rail traffic was massively restricted due to the storm.*
And now another extreme threatens. Jan Schenk from weather.com explains what is to come in Germany in the next few days.
Germany weather: Cold shock threatens in February
According to the weather expert, it will be really cold and stormy again. On Thursday (02/24/2022) “a cold front is coming and that could be the focus of the storm this week,” explains meteorologist Jan Schenk. Because it also brings stormy weather to Germany again. But it doesn’t stop there, because: “The cold front lives up to its name, because very cold air comes afterwards”.
But how cold will it get? The meteorologist has an answer for that too. Friday (02/25/2022) and Saturday (02/26/2022) it should be just 5 degrees Celsius during the day. And then at night the cold shock follows: In the east and in the Alps, the expert expects -10 degrees. But will the bitterly cold weather stay?
Weather in Germany: when will it finally be warm again in February?
Jan Schenk has good news for the friends of spring: “Then we come to the mild side of the hurricane. Warm air is sucked in and we reach temperatures of up to 15 degrees on Monday (02/28/2022).”

Graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung also expects higher and, above all, more even temperatures. “The changeable times are slowly coming to an end,” explains the managing director of the Q.met weather service to wetter.net. He also takes another look at March. “The longer-term forecasts assume that March will be too dry and too mild anyway. That could be the starting signal for it,” explains Jung.
