Zarco takes pole and Márquez will start fifth in Germany

Johann Zarco has put an end to the hegemony of Marc Márquez and has taken pole position in the MotoGP German GP . The one from Cervera had always started from the top position at Sachsenring since he got into MotoGP. This time he stayed very close but will start from fifth position, despite starting Q2 with the best time (1: 20.5 minutes) and only Quartararo (1: 20.4 minutes) managed to beat him on his second attempt.

Already in the final minutes they all squeezed and Márquez was dropping positions. Zarco, Aleix Espargaró and Jack Miller surpassed the Honda rider. He still had time to make one last attempt but a fall by Zarco just over a minute away caused a yellow flag. This was the end of the session since the flag was between turns one and two and there was no time.

He finally got a great result and will start from fifth position. It is his best qualifying result since he returned to racing. Thus, Zarco will be accompanied by Quartararo and Aleix Espargaró in the front row. The Aprillia rider also achieved a very great result to be able to dedicate it to Fausto Gresini. After him, in fourth position will be Jack Miller , just ahead of Marc. Pol Espargaró was eighth, with Rins eleventh.

Alex Rins and Pol Espargaró were the two drivers who made it to Q2 after a very close Q1. Joan Mir and Maverick Viñales were not so lucky. Two crashes by Iker Lecuona and Franco Morbidelli caused a yellow flag that conditioned the two drivers. Their last lap was not worth it and despite the fact that they had time to do another, Lecuona’s crash in turn 1 forced a yellow flag in that area that prevented them from taking another lap. It is Mack’s worst result, due out on the 21st, while Mir will start seventeenth.
