Zarrella's ZDF show: "I love this kind of entertainment"

Giovanni Zarrella is the new face of the ZDF music show. On Saturday he will follow in the footsteps of the long-time presenter Carmen Nebel. And he is also considered a kind of challenger for Florian Silbereisen.

[Berlin -] Carmen Nebel hosted her music show for almost 18 years, her last edition of “Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel” on March 13th was followed by a good four and a half million viewers on ZDF.

There is also great competition at ARD (Florian Silbereisen) and even in the second itself (Helene Fischer, who, however, will cancel her Christmas show in 2021 due to Corona). Nebel’s successor Giovanni Zarrella (43) is therefore by no means making everything new and completely different. But of course it has its own note.

The names of his guests at the first “Giovanni Zarrella Show” (September 11th, 8:15 pm on ZDF) are well known, including the pop stars Andrea Berg and Nino de Angelo as well as Kerstin Ott and the band Santiano. Sasha and Pietro Lombardi are also there. There will also be a sizeable show staircase.

Versatility seems to be the trump card – the new host certainly knows about that. As a singer, he can already look back on a remarkable career: the trained IT system technician was the singer of the bands Brotherhood (1994) and Bro’Sis (2001-2006). In 2013, Zarrella and two other singers founded the trio Vintage Vegas, which went on tour with the latest pop songs in a swing garb. On his album “La vita è bella” and on the current album “Ciao!”, Which reached number one in the German album charts, he sings recent German hits in Italian as a solo artist.

Zarrella also wants to sing herself

Of course, Zarrella, who has been married to model Jana Ina (44) since 2017, will sing himself in his new show, including in a duet. The ZDF deliberately rented a smaller hall, there should be an audience, less than usual in these Corona times.

In an interview with the German Press Agency, Zarrella says: “Of course we can only do it as it will be allowed at the time of the show. We are already planning the next editions, and I very much hope that we will again be able to invite significantly more spectators to the halls. “

The singer and presenter believes that linear television will continue to assert itself because viewers like live experiences. “This of course includes sport in particular, with football and the Olympics, but also music events such as the Eurovision Song Contest – the classic TV viewer simply likes that.”

Zarrella does not see the big Saturday evening show at 8:15 p.m. as an outdated tradition. “I love this type of entertainment, preferably with a huge show staircase where the whole family is watching.”

The show must also exude a certain elegance. “You don’t necessarily have to break it up with a pair of sneakers, you can do that even better with a relaxed way of being.” [Dpa]
