2012 will be the year of neuroscience

The Council of Deputies will support the celebration in 2012 of the Year of Neuroscience in Spain. The objective is to promote research in this area and promote its dissemination among citizens.

In the last 20 years, the number of teams dedicated to neuroscience in Spain, as well as scientific publications on the subject, has grown considerably. However, the repercussions in the media are scarce: " the aim is for ordinary people to know that neuroscience exists, to offer them training, " said Mara Dierssen, a researcher at the Barcelona Genomic Research Center. This city will host the VIII Biennial Conference of the European Federation of Neuroscience Societies (FENS), which will be held from July 14 to 18, 2012.

Various types of activities such as workshops, seminars, exhibitions and conferences organized by different scientific institutions will be held throughout the year. The Granada Science Park, in collaboration with the New York Neuroscience Foundation, will host the exhibition: "Brain. The inside Story", which offers a journey through the brain and everything related to it: thinking, feelings , memory, hope and dreams.
On the other hand, the FENS will offer grants of more than 1,000 euros to those institutions that want to organize an event during the brain disclosure week, an event that is celebrated every year worldwide.
