In February you have an appointment with science in Barcelona

We are living in a time of great change, and there are many uncertainties and challenges that we face as a society. Can science help us solve our concerns? Is scientific knowledge really accessible to everyone? What are the limits of scientific progress? What dilemmas arise from the relationship between science, the market and public powers? How can we ensure that all the public money that is invested in R&D is used for progress and social transformation?

In this context, the City and Science Biennial, which is held in Barcelona from February 7 to 11 , aims to respond to many of these concerns and create a meeting space between scientific knowledge and the ordinary citizen. The event will bring together academics, researchers, educators and scientists from the city and free activities will be offered in more than 60 facilities, aimed at all audiences and with a presence in all districts of the city. More than 80 workshops, talks, exhibitions and shows to answer questions and expand our vision of the world.

Barcelona and its metropolitan area have over the years become one of the most important poles of knowledge, research and scientific experimentation in Europe. The set of universities, business schools, research centers, experimental laboratories and technological innovation spaces projects its power throughout the world, making the city a perfect space for an event such as the City and Science Biennial.

February 11, Day of Women and Girls in Science

“The low presence of women scientists in our society, the invisibility of their goals, the existence of stereotypes and the absence of female scientific roles lead us to a loss of talent that we cannot afford,” explained Ada Colau, mayor of Barcelona, in the presentation of the Biennial. “For this reason, the fact that the event coincides with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is a great opportunity to contribute to reducing gender inequalities in science. We want this Biennial to be a collective event that brings together the scientific and research community, entities, companies and, above all, citizens in search of answers to the great challenges of the 21st century: climate change, the aging of the population , sustainable mobility, energy saving, robotization and digitization, biogenetics and the problems derived from an unsustainable growth model ”.
