Astronomical calendar 2018 – January

2018 is a busy year for astronomy amateurs and professionals. During the next twelve months we will enjoy the beautiful showers of stars, supermoons, eclipses … So that you do not miss a single of the astronomical events of this year, here is our 2018 astronomical calendar.

This astronomical calendar of celestial events contains dates for notable celestial events. Most of the astronomical events on this calendar can be seen with the naked eye, although some may require a good pair of binoculars for better viewing.

Regarding the events that we consider the most prominent in 2018, we could highlight oppositions of outer planets, elongations of the inner planets, eclipses of the Sun and the Moon, the closest conjunction of two planets to the naked eye for 2018, the best concealment easily visible of a bright star and a planet for 2018, comets scheduled to reach perihelion this year, meteor showers, especially the Lyrid (April 22), the Arietids (June 7), the Perseids (August 12), the Draconians (October 8), the Orionids (October 10), the Beelids (December 3) and the Geminids (December 14).

The year has already started on a good astronomical footing , offering us a full moon in the month of January on the night of January 1 to 2, the first of two full moons this month . The second is known as the Blue Moon.

So you don’t get lost, the calendar events are organized by dates and times in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which we must convert to our corresponding local time. For Spain, it is UTC + 1.
