Since the ‘mysterious’ disappearances of ships and planes in the Bermuda Triangle began to be talked about in the middle of the last century, many teams of scientists have tried to find rational explanations for these events.
The Bermuda Triangle has always been a breeding ground for the most fanciful theories: a black hole, a man-eating monster, UFOs … the legend around the so-called Devil’s Triangle is very extensive and has mixed with other classic mysteries : many affirm that Atlantis, that lost continent that Plato spoke of, would be found in this mediatic place.
For this reason, from time to time a team of researchers tries to offer logical answers, many of them related to meteorology. For example, one of the latest works spoke of hexagonal clouds that function as air pumps and are capable of unleashing winds of more than 270 kilometers per hour.
Now oceanographer Simon Boxall of the University of Southampton has revealed the results of new research in a British documentary series about the Bermuda Triangle. According to the scientist, those responsible for the catastrophes that occurred in the cursed triangle would be giant waves that can exceed 30 meters in height.
They are a kind of ‘lightning waves’, which last very few minutes but due to their characteristics they are capable of rapidly sinking large ships and planes, which would disappear without a trace . The origin of these terrible waves would be in the violent storms that form in this area of the ocean.
To test their theory, which has not yet been published in any scientific journal, the team of researchers has even recreated these giant waves under simulated conditions, and have even built a replica of the USS Cyclops, the mythical ship that disappeared in 1918 in the Bermuda Triangle . “The bigger the ship, the more serious the damage,” says the expert in the documentary, which shows how the simulated waves manage to destroy the ship.
