North Korea has launched a ballistic missile that has flown over Japan before plunging into the Pacific Ocean. The missile traveled more than 2,700 kilometers.
It reached its maximum height, 550 kilometers, while flying over Hokkaido, the northernmost Japanese island. Eventually it broke into three pieces and fell 1,180 kilometers east of Cape Erimo into the sea.
The Japanese government's alert system recommended that the population take precautions, although there has been no damage.
The act is considered a provocation. And the government of Japan considers it a "serious threat."
