Women have a more and more prominent role in society in general and in science in particular . To promote a female presence in this area, L’Oreal awards each year the L’Oreal- Unesco For Women in Science research bags. Who have been the winners this year?
This program is aimed at Spanish scientists under 40 years of age, and each research bag is endowed with 15,000 euros . In total, five scholarships are distributed. The disciplines alternate, Life Sciences for two years and Matter Sciences for one year, the latter being the one that has corresponded in this 2014 edition.
The requirements to be eligible for this scholarship are demanding : be in possession of a doctorate degree, with a minimum of four years from the reading of the thesis and have enjoyed pre or post doctoral stays in prestigious centers. In addition, this year the jury has been a little more strict and has also valued the informative capacity of the science of the scholarship among young people, which is also a key objective of the L’Oreal-Unesco For Women in Science program.
The five lucky ones who have obtained one of these scholarships are Ana Belén Hungary, PhD in Chemistry; Elisa Antolín Fernández, doctor in physical sciences; Eva Pellicer, also a doctor in chemistry, Leticia Tarruell, a doctor in quantum physics and Rocio Ponce, a doctor in chemistry. A whole cast of women scientists with brilliant backgrounds and experiences who still have a lot of talent to offer in research.
All of them received last November 26 scholarship in an emotional act or where women and science went hand in hand, because as noted on several occasions, “The world needs science and science needs women”.
