A lump of lunar meteorite weighing two kilos has been up for auction. It is the largest OURTH c framento mole that has been made available to the public and, according to experts at the Heritage House, responsible for the sale, although the initial offer of 130,000 euros price could exceed 260,000 euros when you finish auction, next October 14.
The piece, which is in perfect condition, is called 'Dar al Gani 1058' and was formed in the highlands of the Moon, on the far side of the Earth. Scientists do not know exactly when it fell on our planet. The piece of satellite was found in Libya in 1998 and has been put up for auction by an anonymous collector. In the information on the object, Heritage refers to the rock as "a worthy specimen of the most important natural history museums in the world."
It is not the most expensive meteorite in history. Experts indicate that rocks that have been collected by robotic probes sent into space by NASA or, in its day, the Soviet Union, tend to fetch a higher price due to the historical load they contain. In this sense, Heritage has given as an example the lunar meteorite that, in the year 2000, was sold for more than 340,000 euros, because it had been brought to Earth by a Russian robotic probe in 1970.
