After Facebook and Twitter suspended Donald Trump’s accounts, the former president returned to the internet with a new blog. “Moving to read the new polls on the great warmonger Liz Cheney from the great state of Wyoming!” Reads the most recent entry on her new website. Some of the tabs on the former president’s new website allow users to share or like the posts on Twitter and Facebook, but comments were not enabled. In addition to publishing these entries, which resemble Twitter tweets, the page allows visitors to “sign up for alerts,” and thus receive notifications every time the ex-president posts on his website.
Trump posted a video announcing that this page is a “place to speak freely and safely.” A note at the bottom of the website says that the tool is funded by the former president’s committees: Save America and Make America Great Again.
The suspension of Twitter was a severe blow to Trump. Since he assumed the presidency, he dedicated himself to governing via Twitter: @realDonaldTrump had more than 88 million followers. However, it also became his tool for spreading conspiracy theories, fake news, and hate. According to The Washington Post , as of October 2020, he had made 15,413 false or misleading claims: 14.6 lies a day.
“Trump’s primary use of Twitter has been to spread propaganda and manipulate public opinion,” Sam Woolley, director of propaganda research at the Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin told CNBC. “He used Twitter to delegitimize information or to delegitimize the positions of his opponents.”

Now without regulations, or notices that alert users to possible false claims that the ex-mandate may publish on its website, Trump seeks to return to the Internet. In fact, Jason Miller, one of the former US president’s top advisers, said in March that Trump would create his own social media platform. “This new platform is going to be great,” Miller said, and it will attract “tens of millions of people.”

After knowing the opening of this new blog, social networks exploded with comments and ridicule. But Miller clarified that “President Trump’s website is a great resource for finding his latest statements and highlights from his first term, but this is not a new social media platform,” he wrote. “We will have additional information on that front in the very near future.”
