Switzerland, Singapore and the United States are the leading countries in the Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2021, according to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and in Latin America, countries such as Chile, Costa Rica and Uruguay are the Top 3 in the region, with a score above 50.02 on a scale of 100.

However, Mexico has a score of 46.20 points and part of this gap is because there is still a significant lag in digital skills. For this reason, the Government of CDMX and Meta announced that they will support the Code Schools, a program that seeks to teach people programming and database management; key skills for current and future jobs.

Through the Platzi educational platform, since the generation that began in March of this year, certifications have been offered in the Java and Python programming languages, widely used for the development of mobile applications, as well as the automation of operations using artificial intelligence. . From now on, Meta will offer courses and certifications in Spark AR, the platform for creating augmented reality content.

The courses are taught at 140 Points of Innovation, Freedom, Art, Education and Knowledge ( PILLARS ) and are open to anyone who has four or eight hours a week available. In its first generation, 2,789 people took Java or Python courses, while today there are 1,265 people enrolled in the second generation, which started courses in stages from Monday, August 16.

According to a study by the World Economic Forum, in Mexico there is a high demand for professionals specialized in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analysis, so this initiative focused on the development of digital skills will allow the inhabitants of the City of Mexico access more and better job opportunities. It also lays the foundation for the development of future technologies such as the metaverse, a platform that will expand the possibilities of educational and social experiences, as well as economic opportunities.

“The Government of Mexico City conceives technology as a mechanism for the enforceability of rights aimed at reducing inequality gaps. In this context, we celebrate this alliance with Meta to consolidate this program as the largest public programming school in Latin America,” said José Merino, head of the Digital Agency for Public Innovation on behalf of the Government of Mexico City.

“People who constantly learn programming and technology skills and stay up-to-date on platforms like Platzi open themselves up to more highly competitive job opportunities. In our impact study we found that our students increase their salaries between 2X to 10X after studying between 12 and 18 months,” said Martha Belden, vice president of growth at Platzi.

For his part, Íñigo Fernández Baptista, director of Public Policies for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, expressed that for technology it is “extremely valuable to help the people of the capital have new employment opportunities and help train a new generation of professionals who will build the technologies of the future”.
