Fibra Storage issues green bonds for 1,500 million pesos

The trend for investment instruments that incentivize sustainability continues to rise. This time, it was the thunderbolt of Fibra Storage, which became the second fiber (after Fibra Prologis) to issue green bonds.

The issue of Fibra Storage, which specializes in operating and developing mini-warehouses for self-storage, was for an amount of 1,500 million pesos and was carried out through the

Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV). The issue consists of two series, with terms of four and seven years at a fixed and variable rate, respectively, the BMV detailed in a statement. And they have an ‘AA’ rating on a national scale by HR Ratings and Fitch Ratings.

The resources obtained in the operation will be used by the fiber to finance projects that meet the criteria of sustainable water management, energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure.

“We are very excited to issue Green Bonds because it reflects our permanent commitment to sustainability and best practices for the benefit of our environment,” said Diego Isita Portilla, general director of Fibra Storage, in a statement.

According to Fibra Storage, its sustainable winery development strategy consists of the use of energy from renewable sources, the reduction of emissions and a sustainable management of water through the use of rainwater.

Fibra Storage, which debuted on the BMV in 2018 with a public offering for 271 million pesos, has 21 properties in Mexico City and the Metropolitan Area, with a profitable operating area of 100,923 square meters, with an average occupancy of 75.3 %.

Emissions of tagged instruments have been on the rise in recent months. During 2020, there were five bond issues labeled in the BMV for 17,000 million pesos. While so far in 2021, there have already been four issues for 8,500 million pesos.
