Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali expects further imponderables for the new season due to the corona pandemic. “First we have to see that we can pull through this season at all. During a pandemic there is no security,” he said in the ServusTV interview before the opening race on Sunday in Bahrain (5 p.m. on LIVETICKER).
It is not a matter of course to be able to hold races, said Domenicali. Formula 1 is planning a record calendar of 23 world championship races in 2021. “At the next stops, we have to look at the pandemic in the world on a case-by-case basis. Hopefully the vaccinations will go ahead so that we can look forward to a bright future. That is the top priority this year.” said Domenicali.
Over the course of the season, the 55-year-old hopes for spectators to return to the tracks – under strict conditions. “Of course we have to make sure that the drivers are protected, that there is good testing within the teams, that we can just do our business. And we have to respect the guidelines of the governments in the individual countries and venues,” said Domenicali.
The Italian is firmly expecting a high demand for tickets: “As soon as it is possible, I am sure that people all over the world will visit the racetracks again and support their teams.”
