From science fiction to reality: Chinese "flying car" makes its first public flight

A " flying car " developed by Chinese e-vehicle maker Xpeng Inc 9868.HK has made its first public flight in the United Arab Emirates as the company works to launch the electric plane in international markets.

The X2 is a two-seater electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that lifts thanks to eight propellers, two at each corner of the vehicle.

The 90-minute unmanned test flight, carried out in Dubai on Monday, was described by its manufacturer as an "important foundation for the next generation of flying cars".

"We are moving step by step towards the international market," said Minguan Qiu, general manager of Xpeng Aeroht. "First, we chose the city of Dubai because it is the most innovative in the world."
