Peter Thorwarth brings out war drama on Netflix

What’s new on Netflix? The German director Peter Thorwald will soon be shooting a World War II western for the streaming service.

Berlin – After the globally successful horror action thriller “Blood Red Sky” about terrorists and a vampire on a plane, Peter Thorwarth is now working on a world war drama for Netflix called “Blood and Gold”.

It’s a kind of “spaghetti western”, but it’s set in Germany and at the end of the Second World War, director Thorwarth (50) said on Tuesday in an online press conference for Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Netflix Content Remote Show DACH ). Author is Stefan Barth. The film is scheduled to be shot in the first half of 2022 and released in 2023.

According to Thorwarth, it is about a German soldier who learns that his hometown was bombed by the Allies and that only a small daughter of his family survived. As a deserter fleeing from the SS, the protagonist fights his way home to his child with a farmer’s wife he meets in the forest.

Thorwarth (“Bang Boom Bang – Ein todsicheres Ding”, “What doesn’t fit, will be made to fit”) had been looking for a buyer for his weird stuff “Blood Red Sky” for many years and finally landed on Netflix after more than 15 years. More than 50 million homes watched the fraught work about a runaway transatlantic flight carrying terrorists and vampires in the first four weeks after launch on July 23, 2021. Last summer, the thriller temporarily took the top spot in the Netflix charts in almost 60 countries, including the USA, Saudi Arabia and Brazil, as Netflix announced at the time. dpa
