After several weeks of suspension, the Pornhub account was permanently removed from Instagram.
The social network said the adult content platform has repeatedly violated community guidelines, leading to account removal.
For its part, Pornhub stated in a statement to Meta and Instagram that the application of these rules is “opaque, discriminatory and hypocritical.” Addressed to four Meta executives, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, the letter was endorsed by 60 signatories from the adult entertainment industry.
Before its permanent ban, the popular porn site’s Instagram account was suspended three weeks ago. Instagram’s content guidelines prohibit , but Pornhub claims her account was .
“We know there are times when people may want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow them on Instagram,” it read in the Instagram community guidelines. But Instagram bans porn actors from the platform, which could have implicated Pornhub. According to , Pornhub had posted a video on Instagram encouraging people to become adult content performers.
The letter also noted that high-profile Instagram users like Kim Kardashian, who has 330 million followers, have been allowed to post “her exposed body” (it appears that Pornhub is referring to the recent interview, which has more than 5 million likes on Instagram).
“We are happy to see that Kim and the artistic team behind the image are able to share their work on the platform, but wonder why we are being denied the same treatment,” the letter read.
