"The Pillars of Creation" is, without a doubt, the most iconic, well-known and most popular image of the NASA / ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Originally, this great photograph was captured in 1995 and later 20 years later, in 2015, on the occasion of the 25 years since the telescope was commissioned.

In the new “Pillars of Creation” image taken in 2015, the three star-lit columns of gas add an unusual level of detail to the snapshot. This species of elephant fingers or trunks of interstellar gas and dust, is located about 7,000 light years distant from Earth, in the Eagle Nebula.
The most recent photograph included the near-infrared light spectrum, hence the various stars behind the pillars can be observed.
