This company in Mexico wants to automate your tax payments

The company Heru , dedicated to the development of solutions to automate and simplify the declaration and payment of taxes to the Tax Administration Service (SAT) , launched a seed round for 6 million dollars (mdd), led by Gradient Ventures, the Intelligence fund Google artificial.

The main objective is to finance work to integrate Heru’s technology and information with bank applications, so that, for example, when a client receives their payroll and makes payments, the bank’s app tells them if some of those payments may be deductible, and include them in the annual tax return, Mateo Jaramillo, co-founder of Heru, explained in an interview.

Heru wants to expand its tax solutions to other regimes beyond taxpayers in the digital platform regime such as tax incorporation (RIF), lease, simplified trust regime (RESICO), salaries and wages.

The company was born in 2019, but the business in tax solutions for people who earn income by offering services through digital platforms and companies in 2020 is less than two years old. It started with three people and today there are more than 55, they hope to close 2022 with more than 60 members. They have 10,000 fixed active users, and the goal is to reach 20,000 by the end of 2022.

“Our technology does not depend on a relationship with the SAT. What we do is link the person’s information in a completely secure and encrypted way, what you do is put into the Heru mobile app platform, you enter your RFC, password or e-signature and we connect you with the SAT. That information arrives encrypted, no one can read it, access it, we send that information to the SAT through the services they have for the taxpayer and we start downloading the taxpayer’s information, we present it in a simplified way to the taxpayer”, detailed Stiven Rodriguez, co-founder of Heru.

Mexico is a growing market in tax matters

There are three changes that contribute to the growth of the market for digital solutions to comply with tax obligations around the world, and that Jaramillo and Rodriguez identify after more than 5 years working at Uber.

The first is the digitalization of the works; With technology, services such as private transportation are requested through platforms, this has digitized jobs, leading them to become professional, to use platforms, they went from offline to digital, commented Mateo Jaramillo.

In second place is the digitization of payments, before the taxi service, for example, was paid in cash, now many of these operations are by transfers, from one app to another.

The third is electronic invoicing, after Brazil, Mexico is one of the most advanced countries in Latin America in this area. Brazil has been issuing electronic invoices for 18 years, followed by Mexico with 16 years, Jaramillo explained.
