This is how Madrid looks covered in snow, from space

The spectacular and snowy image of Madrid, which appears to have been captured in black and white, was taken by the Sentinel-2 satellite of the Copernicus mission on January 11, 2021 at 12:14 CET. It is a true color image and, without a doubt, further proof of the heaviest snowfall in 50 years that has covered the region, turning the landscape completely white. Storm Filomena hit Spain over the weekend, covering parts of the country in thick snow and leaving half the country on red alert. Madrid has suffered the closure of the airport, the cancellation of trains and the blocking of many roads.

The satellite image was taken after the storm passed and there is still a lot of snow . Do you appreciate how white the Madrid airport looks? Weather forecasts estimate that temperatures will drop to –12 ° C, making it urgent to clear the roads to be able to deliver supplies of essential goods, such as food and the long-awaited COVID vaccines.
