A black Wild West, a Hollywood star with a dog and a mysterious horse: what’s worth streaming now.
Berlin – a few streaming tips for the near future:
„The Harder They Fall“ (Netflix)
With a few exceptions, the western has so far been a genre that has been dominated by white men in front of and behind the camera. The British director and music producer Jeymes Samuel is now completely reversing the situation: in his top-class black power western “The Harder They Fall” almost all roles are cast by black actors, including stars like Idris Elba and Regina King.
It tells a story of revenge in which the traditional distinction between good and bad is difficult. As a child, Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) had to witness how his parents were shot in cold blood by the gangster Rufus Buck (Elba). Only years later does the men showdown. Almost more exciting are the women in this film, who pursue their own businesses and interests.
The soundtrack to the sometimes bloody events, for which none other than rapper Jay-Z is responsible, is also very original with its hip-hop and reggae elements.
„Finch“ (Apple+)
Hanks with a dog: Acting superstar Tom Hanks (65) has a knack for lonely heroes. In “Lost” he landed on a deserted island, in “Sully” he landed a plane on the Hudson as a self-sufficient pilot and in “Forrest Gump” it was about friends and the big ones like a guy who had fallen out of the world Love finds.
In his new film he now plays the engineer Finch Weinberg, the survivor of a great ecological catastrophe that has turned our world into an uninhabitable wasteland. At his side is the dog Goodyear. Finch is plagued by the question of what will become of the animal when it dies. He decides to build a robot. Even if it seems like a comment on the loneliness in pandemic times: The melancholy science fiction drama “Finch” about unusual friendships was filmed before Corona. The film was scheduled to release in the US in autumn 2020, but is now going straight to the Apple TV + streaming service.
“Zoe and Raven – Freedom in the Saddle” (Netflix)
The main thing is riding: Zoe loves horses more than anything. During the summer holidays, she prefers to spend every free minute in the saddle. One day she sees a mysterious horse – and is drawn into an adventure. The series “Zoe and Raven – Freedom in the Saddle” on Netflix tells what the 15-year-old is experiencing.
Fantastic: Alice and Peter love to make up adventure stories. But her parents are poor. The siblings travel to town to help their families. There they get to know the strangest people and experience the most exciting and unbelievable things. The film “The Magic of Dreams” is currently running on Amazon Prime Video.
“Greta Thunberg: A year to change the world” (Sky Nature and Sky Ticket)
Girls with a Mission: The three-part BBC documentary “Greta Thunberg: A year to change the world” follows in the footsteps of Greta Thunberg in her year off school. She uses the time to work for the climate, she wants to convince politicians to meet their obligations in the fight against global warming. On her journey around the world, which she will begin in mid-2019, the BBC camera team will get a unique and intimate insight behind the scenes. The series not only documents the time when Greta Thunberg grew up before the eyes of the world. The documentary also shows how Corona leads to a complete standstill almost everywhere – and presents Greta Thunberg with an even greater challenge. From November 7th at Sky Nature and Sky Ticket. dpa
