That's how it is. We owe the invention of the dishwasher to the American Josephine Cochrane (1839-1913) who built together with the mechanic George Butter .
Tired of washing dishes, she came up with the idea of a mechanical dishwasher, which held dishes securely on a rack while the pressure of a water spray cleaned them. He received the dishwasher patent in 1886 and began marketing his dishwasher in hotels .
In 1893, his dishwasher was displayed at the Columbia World's Fair in Chicago , and as time passes, his legacy lives on more than ever. Of course, we had to wait until 1949 for his dishwasher to become the traditional utensil that we have at home. Even the company he founded was bought by KitchenAid in 1916, with Cochrane herself listed as one of its founders.
Cochrane is inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame , an American NGO based in Virginia that recognizes the country's great inventors.
