Xabi Uribe-Etxebarria: Should we be afraid of artificial intelligence?

Science fiction has often shown us dystopian realities with a future in which artificial intelligence has been capable, not only of supplanting, but also of subduing the human being. But the vision of the engineer Xabi Uribe-Etxebarria is more humanistic.

“Artificial intelligence is a complement for the human being to be better and improve their capabilities.” For Uribe, it makes no sense to be afraid of artificial intelligence at the moment when we can appreciate all that the human-machine combination can bring us.

In addition, he adds: “Artificial intelligence cannot be left exclusively in the hands of technologists, it must be seen from a humanistic point of view. It is time to start putting ethical standards in the use of AI; I am optimistic that it can be regulated. in the future”.

With the help of Dr. Michael Laakauso we immerse ourselves in pioneering research in the field of ethics and AI, in which he highlights the fact that the ethics of machines should not be neglected in technological development. What does the development of AI mean to us as humans? How will it affect our perception of the human? What are the values we want to hold onto?
