16-year-old is said to have murdered 13-year-old

Shock in Singapore: Police arrest a 16-year-old. He is said to have killed a 13-year-old classmate. His murder weapon was apparently an ax.

Singapore – In Singapore, a 16-year-old has been charged with murder after killing a classmate. The suspect was arrested after a 13-year-old was found dead in a toilet at River Valley High School, authorities said.

The victim had numerous wounds. According to the police, an ax was found at the scene. Interior Minister Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam said the alleged perpetrator likely purchased the ax online. “What exactly happened, we will only know when the investigation is over,” he wrote on Facebook.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was shocked. The act is incomprehensible. “We have no words because we can not understand it,” tweeted the head of government. Violent crime is very rare in the strictly controlled city-state of Singapore. According to police, the suspect was in psychiatric treatment for attempting to kill himself two years ago.

The public prosecutor’s office demanded that the youth be observed under psychiatric conditions before he is to be questioned in court on August 10. While Singapore does have the death penalty for serious crimes, the student would be exempt from it because of his young age. dpa
