In Lower Saxony, a young woman is forced into prostitution and then killed. Three people are convicted – there is no clear homicide.
Update from Friday, 10/22/2021, 1:38 p.m.: In the murder trial for the death of a 19-year-old woman who was sunk in the Weser in April 2020, the Verden district court has two men and a woman on Thursday (10/21/2021) to prison terms sentenced. As reported by the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung, the three accused were guilty of dangerous bodily harm through failure to act, but they could not be proven to have committed a clear homicide.
According to the presiding judge of the trial, however, there is much to be said for the fact that one of the accused should be convicted of willful homicide. “But we don’t know who it was,” he said. All three were charged with murder. At the age of eight, a 41-year-old defendant receives the longest prison sentence for severe forced prostitution, rape, attempted rape, attempted sexual assault and dangerous bodily harm through omission. Together with his friend and his former partner, he “bought” the young woman and, despite her mental illness, offered her to clients as a prostitute.
Murder of a young woman in Lower Saxony: two men and one woman found guilty
According to the judge, it is now clear that the 19-year-old died in the spring of 2020 in the garage on the property of the 41-year-old defendant. However, the exact cause of death is unclear. But it is clear that her unclothed corpse was tied to a concrete slab and the Weser was thrown in the Nienburg district in Lower Saxony. About three weeks after the crime, a barge found the body in the water.
It is now convinced that all three accused know how the young woman died. However, the two men and the woman did not comment in court. It is possible, however, that the 19-year-old was strangled or suffocated in the garage or died from being given a large amount of salt. In the hours before her death, the victim was feeling very bad as a result of an episode of illness and needed medical help. However, none of the three accused had called an ambulance.
In their plea for the two men and the woman, the public prosecutor’s office had called for life imprisonment for attempted murder through failure to provide assistance and human trafficking. According to the chamber, however, such a conviction was out of the question. Those involved in the process now have the opportunity to appeal against the judgments – the lawyer of a brother of the murdered woman has already announced this.
