Corona in Germany: Incidence increase, especially among younger people – but there is also a trend in other age groups

Politicians are still looking at the corona incidence – and it continues to rise. “Earlier and faster than last year,” says the RKI. The overview on Friday morning.

Berlin – The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) * looks at the seven-day incidence in Germany and states: “Earlier and faster increase than last year, despite the increasing vaccination rate,” the institute said on Twitter on Thursday evening. The new RKI weekly report shows that health authorities are no longer able to understand all chains of infection. After all: “The proportion of cases with a known probable exposure abroad has not increased any further compared to the previous week.”

On Friday morning, the seven-day incidence * across Germany was 20.4. The previous day the value was 19.4. Within a month, the incidence has roughly quadrupled. The health authorities in Germany reported 3448 new Corona * infections to the RKI within one day, as shown on the RKI dashboard (as of August 6, 3:14 a.m.) . A week ago, the value for Germany was 2454 infections.

24 more deaths related to Corona in Germany – Bavaria incidence at 13.8

According to the new information, 24 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. The RKI has counted 3,784,433 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The number of people who died with or involving a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 91,754.

According to the RKI, Neumünster in northern Germany is currently the German hotspot with a seven-day incidence of 81.1. This is followed by Solingen (76.6) and Flensburg (54.3). In a comparison of the 16 federal states, Hamburg is at the top of the negative list with 37.2 – followed by Berlin (35) and Schleswig-Holstein (34.9). The RKI shows the lowest values for Thuringia (6.5) and Saxony (6.7). Bavaria is therefore at 13.8.

Corona vaccinations in Germany: RKI appeals to take advantage of offers

The incidence rises above all in 10 to 34 year olds, but the trend is higher than that

In its current status report from Thursday, the RKI writes: “The current increase in incidence can be observed primarily in the age groups of 10 to 34-year-olds, although this trend is now also apparent in the age groups up to 49.” The data relate for the period up to August 1st. The RKI recorded the most infections with 49 per 100,000 inhabitants within a week for 20 to 24-year-olds. Single-digit values are given for people aged 55 and over, but there are also slight increases in some of these groups.

According to the report, the figures for hospital patients and treatments in intensive care units are still at “a“ low level ”. The delta variant classified as worrying has largely displaced other variants in Germany. In a sample selected for genetic analysis, which is representative of Germany, Delta was found in 97 percent of the cases, as the RKI writes. Almost all other evidence relates to the previously dominant mutant alpha (B.1.1.7). According to the data, the so-called lambda variant * has so far not played a role in Germany.

Corona vaccination in Germany: “It is strongly recommended to take advantage of the offers for vaccination against Covid-19 now”

The RKI is about the vaccination: The majority of the corona cases recorded since February were not vaccinated. It is “urgently recommended to take advantage of the offers for vaccination against Covid-19 now,” the report appeals. (cibo / dpa) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
