Grazing animals are often fed by walkers. But what is meant nicely can quickly end fatally. In Baden-Württemberg, more than 20 goats recently perished.
Pfinztal – The relationship between humans and animals is complicated. Many are extremely fond of animals and would not harm a fly. But in Baden-Württemberg * alone it regularly happens that animals are treated cruelly. In Mannheim, a nutria had to be put down after severe abuse (BW24 * reported).
But it is not only with wild animals that dealing with them is sometimes catastrophic. Pets and farm animals are also regularly targeted by those who only dislike other living things. Most recently, a lamb died in Weil der Stadt because it was hounded to death *. However, a supposed love of animals can also be fatal. Because even a good thing can quickly become too much. In the Pfinztal in Baden-Württemberg, over 20 goats recently died because they were being fed by passers-by.
Poisoned goats: Passers-by cause the animals to die through incorrect feed
Those who go for a walk in Baden-Württemberg often come across pastures where farm animals graze. Loving animals People want to do something good for them – and unknowingly cause serious damage. In Pfinztal, one owner died this year alone, 23 goats, including 18 babies. “I think a lot of people don’t worry because they don’t see the scope,” explains the owner of the animals to the German press agency .
Walkers would regularly throw moldy bread over the pasture fence in Pfinztal, as well as green cuttings from poisonous or non-poisonous plants, rotten fruit and vegetables. Unsuitable food is often too much of a challenge, especially for the stomachs of young animals. The phenomenon is particularly well-known for ducks in cities. In parks, they like to be fed bread, which the animals actually cannot tolerate. In addition, they do not eat everything by far, so that leftovers of bread rot in the waters and cause them to “tip over”.
The legal situation is actually clear. Everyone must have seen a “No feeding!” Sign on a pasture fence. In fact, grazing animals such as goats, sheep, cattle, horses, donkeys or alpacas are not allowed to be fed without the consent of the owner – no matter how nice it is meant by passers-by.
Death after feeding: After poisoning her goats by passers-by, the owner draws the consequences
The more than 70 goats owned by the owner from Pfinztal were originally housed on a different site and have since moved. But all educational work on feeding seems to have had no effect, and deaths have increased again. The owner of the goats uses videos and photos to show the suffering caused by incorrect feed on the Internet. An animal must be repositioned regularly and strengthened through physiotherapy. “She is an intensive care patient,” explains the owner.
The consequences that the owner in Pfinztal now draws because of the dead animals are correspondingly drastic. “We will now equip the properties with cameras and in future every feed will be displayed immediately,” she explains. * BW24 is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
