The prerequisite for the booster is that the second Corona vaccination was six months ago. According to the decision of the Conference of Health Ministers, everyone who has been completely vaccinated with a vector vaccine from the manufacturers Astrazeneca or Johnson & Johnson is also intended to have a booster. In practice, however, this group of people will only have their turn from the beginning of September because of the six-month interval that applies here as well. With the third vaccination, an mRNA vaccine is inoculated, for example from Biontech / Pfizer or Moderna *.

State starts with third corona vaccination: These people are in focus

“The vaccination centers and the resident, treating doctors in Bavaria can already offer booster vaccinations,” said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) on Monday (August 16, 2021) in Munich. This is especially true for very old people aged 80 and over, residents of nursing homes, people with immunodeficiency disorders or immunosuppression and those in need of care who live at home.

Holetschek recommended that the corona vaccination centers and resident doctors should initially concentrate on the people in the care facilities. “Because that’s where the people who were vaccinated first live,” said the minister. Then, so far unvaccinated employees of the facilities could also be vaccinated unbureaucratically.

Due to the third corona vaccination, “no rush to the vaccination centers” expected

Holetschek emphasized the importance of further first and second vaccinations against Corona: “The booster vaccinations will not be at the expense of the first and second vaccinations. We have enough vaccine. Primary vaccinations continue to have the highest priority. “

Bavaria’s health minister expects “no rush to the vaccination centers” because of the corona third-party vaccinations. It is not a general appeal, and the offers of the state vaccination centers and their mobile teams are only additionally involved. He assumed that most of the third-party vaccinations would now be organized by the resident doctors who regularly looked after the risk groups.

Stiko does not yet recommend the third corona vaccination

The Standing Vaccination Commission has not yet issued a recommendation for the third corona vaccination. The Stiko is dealing with the topic, but has not yet seen the data basis necessary for an official recommendation. This involves questions such as: Is the measurable immune response in the laboratory decreasing? Do vaccinated people experience more illnesses in real life? Which group would benefit from the booster?

Regarding Israel’s decision to offer third corona vaccinations for the elderly, Stiko boss Thomas Mertens said that nothing speaks against a state acting like this out of a duty of care – even without evidence. (tvd / dpa / AFP) * hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
