Noginsk – Two people were killed in a massive gas explosion in a nine-story apartment building near the Russian capital Moscow.
At least 17 people were injured on Wednesday, including two children, said the investigation committee. Dozens of residents were brought to safety. The clean-up continued until the afternoon. It was not ruled out that the number of victims could continue to rise, as several people were still considered missing.
Pictures showed how the facade was partially torn out by the force of the explosion. Debris flew for yards. Eight apartments were completely destroyed. According to the Ministry of Civil Protection, two floors collapsed at one point in the house. The exact cause of the accident should still be investigated.
