RKI updates list of high-risk countries: Popular holiday island in the Mediterranean affected

Popular travel destinations are no longer classified as high-risk areas by the Robert Koch Institute. Crete and Corsica, among others, are affected.

Berlin – Vacationers in particular should be pleased with this news: The list of corona high-risk areas continues to shrink. The federal government is removing the islands of Crete and Corsica, which are popular with holidaymakers, from that list from Sunday (September 12).

Corona high-risk areas: Crete and Corsica are disappearing from the list

As the Robert Koch Institute * announced on Friday (September 10th), the southern Aegean is no longer one of the high-risk areas in addition to Crete. Greece disappears completely from the list of high-risk areas.

In France, only the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and some overseas territories remain on the list, as the RKI announced on Friday. From Sunday on, a large part of South America will be “risk-free” again: Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Ecuador and Peru will also be removed from the list of Corona high-risk areas. Then there are Oman and Namibia.

Corona high-risk areas: New countries on the RKI’s list

In return, other countries are finding their way onto the list of high-risk areas. Norway with the provinces of Oslo and Viken as well as Bosnia-Herzegovina, Nicaragua and Grenada are newly classified as high-risk areas. Countries and regions with a particularly high risk of infection with the coronavirus * are assigned to this category.

Returnees who are not fully vaccinated or have recovered must be quarantined for ten days. But you can get rid of it after five days with a negative test. For the classification – unlike in the past – not only the infection numbers are decisive. Other criteria are the speed at which the virus is spreading, the burden on the health system or a lack of data on the corona situation.

In Denmark, the last corona restrictions * have been removed. Thanks to a high vaccination rate, the virus is no longer “socially critical”. (dpa / jsch) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
