Duel at the stove: "Mälzer and Henssler deliver!"

People swear and tease, sweat and, above all, cook. Tim Mälzer and Steffen Henssler have to deliver. Deliver. To whom and what? That only develops when you cook yourself.

Hamburg – Do you like each other now or not? Tim Mälzer and Steffen Henssler fooled each other over many different cooking programs. A funny and entertaining game that they maintain and somehow have also cultivated.

Now the competition between the two TV chefs even gets a joint program – “Mälzer and Henssler deliver!”. The duel is currently on two days at Vox, the house broadcaster of the two. The first for more than three hours on Sunday (19.9.) At 8.15 p.m., the date for the second episode will be announced according to the broadcaster.

The two Schnodderschnauzen from Hamburg have to spontaneously produce food for delivery to each other and cook it within a few minutes. The special thing about it: Notes to customers only come in droplets. At the beginning there is only the number of people. And then there are also prominent hungry guests such as Ina Müller, Judith Rakers, Smudo, Steven Gätjen, Wigald Boning and Revolverheld.

Already in the trailer it becomes clear: This is pure stress and the two don’t give each other anything. They piss each other off, they make fun of each other and they poke each other on while cooking. In an interview with the German Press Agency, however, the two immediately make one thing clear. “That is the myth that always persists that we both don’t like each other,” says Steffen Henssler. “Of course we also like to peck and tease each other, but it is actually the case that we have the greatest respect for each other and just like each other. Meanwhile a little more anyway. At least I like him. ”And then there it is. That grin from both of them. This familiar. Brothers in spirit. You can easily do that for them.

It had long been clear to them that the two of them would do a show together, say the two cooks, who fans especially love for their casualness at the stove. “We didn’t have to be bribed, we just had to find the right format,” says Henssler.

Copying an international format was out of the question for both of them. “We no longer just wanted to serve the status of TV chefs, but were looking for more leeway. According to a concept that tells us a story and allows us to develop a relationship, ”says Mälzer. You developed one yourself.

The corona pandemic, in which the delivery service has also become very important for restaurants, played into their hands. The common fun and competition at the stove and the flippant sayings of both are combined with the demands on a delivery service and the unpredictability of customers, about which more is only gradually revealed. The two can only see whether they were correct once they have personally delivered the food.

When implementing the concept, it was also important to both of them: “The condition was: no studio. This is a real kitchen, it’s a real restaurant and it could be a real delivery service, ”said Mälzer. The film was shot in July in his restaurant “The Good Message” on the Hamburg Outer Alster.

Both are convinced that the show will be well received. “Yes, an incredible number of people can cook in front of the camera, and probably a lot better than us. But cooking in such a way that people like to stay in front of the screen is one of Steffen’s and me’s strengths, ”says Mälzer.

And continues with a broad chest: “We don’t have many pairings on German television that take place at this level. It’s like Messi and Ronaldo. At different levels. That’s a little bit of Joko and Klaas. That’s a little bit Thomas Gottschalk and Günther Jauch. These are two elephants from their industry who also happen to do both media and agree to demonstrate to each other or to be demonstrated. ”Dpa
