Laupheim – The film producer Nico Hofmann received the Carl Laemmle Producer Award 2020 in Schloss Laupheim on Friday. Actress Maria Furtwängler paid tribute to Hofmann in her laudation for his consistent struggle for quality and his “incredible instinct for topics”.
At the award ceremony in the Biberach district, jury chairman Dieter Kosslick emphasized that Hofmann had had a lasting impact on German cinema and television. Hofmann does not make films for himself, but wants to encourage others to think.
And he also takes up the dark aspects of German history, said Kosslick about the unanimous decision of the jury for the 61-year-old Hofmann. The award was originally planned for last year, but had to be postponed due to the corona restrictions.
The managing director of the film production company Ufa, based in Potsdam, is one of the most important film and television producers in Germany (“Our mothers, our fathers”, “Ku’damm 56”).
Laupheim is the birthplace of the film pioneer Carl Laemmle (1867-1939). He emigrated to the USA at the age of 17 and founded Universal Studios. With films like “Frankenstein” or “Nothing New in the West” the producer helped Hollywood to become world famous. The award was launched in 2017 on the occasion of the 150th birthday of the film pioneer. It is awarded by the producer alliance together with the city of Laupheim. dpa
