Expected timeline of future space travel, according to a new study from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory:
(Late) 2020s: base camps on the Moon and robotic missions to the nearest exoplanets.
(Late) 2030s: manned mission to Mars.
2030s: Robotic missions to the Sun-like star Tau Ceti (located 11.9 light years away).
2040s : Robotic missions launched to the TRAPPIST-1 system 40 light-years away.
2050s: robotic mission to distant stars.
2060s: manned mission to the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
2070s: manned mission to Jupiter (probably the moon Callisto because it is far enough away from the planet's intense radiation fields).
2080s: manned mission to the moons of Saturn (probably Titan and Enceladus).
Year 2250: manned mission to close exoplanets like Proxima Centauri b (4.2 light years away).
Year 2300: The robotic mission arrives at the TRAPPIST-1 system, 40 light years away.
(Late) 2400: manned mission to distant stars halfway to the center of the Milky Way.
