Three reasons why it is very difficult to have sex in space

Although it continues to be a taboo subject on the part of space agencies, the truth is that in the future astronauts will spend more and more time in space, and the new era of space tourism started by billionaires recently also augurs this type of stay for part of the civilian population. Therefore, it is necessary to approach the subject of sexuality rigorously and to solve some of the main physical obstacles to having sex and masturbating in space.

According to a report by researchers from Erobotics Research Consulting and global pleasure brand We-Vibe, there are three main impediments that have not yet been fully addressed by the scientific community:

Lack of gravity

Zero gravity and microgravity pose one of the greatest difficulties in space life. “Without sufficient gravity, bodies are not attracted to each other, and contact between lovers would require constant effort. Limited friction would reduce the chances of pleasure for couples who have sex, ”the report explains.

Lack of privacy

It is an obvious problem, but very difficult to solve when we talk about very small space capsules and with a practically total lack of privacy. In these claustrophobic and sometimes very quiet environments, having sex or even masturbating in private can be a very difficult task to carry out.

Personal hygiene and elimination of liquids

Have you realized this? “The bodily fluids, released in ejaculation, must be contained to prevent them from flying. This condition also imposes a rigid hygiene code on astronauts to protect the fragile environment in spacecraft and minimize the waste of scarce resources such as paper or condoms, ”the report explains.

Sex in space must stop being a taboo subject

“To move forward, space agencies and the public that support them must remember that addressing issues of human sexuality from a positive, scientific, empathic and inclusive perspective is critical to our health, well-being and the success of our extraterrestrial life. Especially, it is necessary to remember that: sexual health is health; sexual rights are human rights ; sexuality means diversity; pleasure is fun and important; and technology, for example sex toys, can help ”.
