After uncovering the grievances in the Augsburg nursing home: the city issues an ultimatum

Since it no longer sees the supply guaranteed, the city of Augsburg gives the retirement home an ultimatum. Around half of the employees are infected with Corona.

Augsburg – The city has set a final deadline for the nursing home on Ebnerstrasse in Augsburg*: the facility must prove by Saturday (February 19) that it has sufficient nursing staff. If it can’t, it has to close. This was announced by Augsburg’s health officer Reiner Erben (Greens) on Thursday (February 17) at a press conference.

Ultimatum for nursing home: Corona outbreak among nurses and residents

The situation in the nursing home is precarious *: On Thursday, the health and social department found no more trained nursing staff in the facility, only assistants. As a result, the municipal elderly care set up emergency care on site – which is only limited to two days. The city no longer sees the supply guaranteed, since around half of the employees are now infected with Corona*. And among the residents, around half of the 60 remaining people are also infected with Corona. At the time of the transfer, a total of 86 people lived in the home.

After an inspection of the home, 17 residents were already relocated on Wednesday because of the corona outbreak, and another ten people followed on Thursday. One person was taken to the hospital because of an acute illness. However, the city did not want to speak of an evacuation, rather it was a matter of a transfer. According to information from the medical officer Thomas Wibner when asked by the BR , Corona was not the only one to blame. “After the staff there was designed to be on edge and now suddenly there isn’t any left, it just doesn’t work anymore.”

Nursing assistants from Italy are helping out for the provisional supply

According to the home management, volunteer specialists would help out for the care of the remaining residents. The facility also has nursing assistants from Italy on duty. By order of the home supervisor, the operator, which belongs to the Sereni Orizzonti group, had to provide these forces quickly. According to the health officer Erben, it is still unclear whether these are sufficiently qualified. The Italian nursing assistants would not speak German, nor would auxiliary staff be allowed to give residents medication or treat wounds.

Only in the autumn of last year were 16 residents from the scandal home in Schliersee (Miesbach district) relocated to Augsburg. Both homes have the same provider – and also had a similarly bad reputation. The Schliersee retirement home was closed in September. Does the same now also apply to the Augsburg home? There have been signs of abuse for a long time.

An unannounced check in May and October last year and in January this year found “significant deficiencies in the area of wound management”. This emerges from a response from the State Ministry for Health and Care to the request of the SPD member of parliament Harald Güller. He welcomed the relocation of the residents of the nursing home, as he told BR . ( Cornelia Schramm, mell) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
