Cofece recommends Congress not to approve the electricity reform

The antitrust regulator has recommended to Congress not to approve the electricity reform sent by the president to strengthen the state-owned CFE, which is currently in the Chamber of Deputies.

The Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece) sent a document on March 3 to senators and deputies in which it warns that the initiative represents a risk for consumers, companies and public finances due to an inevitable increase in subsidies.

In return, Cofece recommends to the legislature that efforts be made to consolidate a competitive electricity model "capable of supplying electricity in the best conditions and supporting the development of the country."

The competition regulator has previously recommended not to establish some regulations such as the change in the issuance of Clean Energy Certificates and the modifications to the Electricity Industry Law.
